This bed-and-breakfast inn is steeped in Nantucket history, beginning with its original owner, Archaelus Hammond, captain of the whaleship Cyrus, and the first man to kill a sperm whale in the Pacific Ocean. The Gilbreths, of Cheaper by the Dozen fame, owned the house in the 1950s and wrote of their experience in Innside Nantucket. A charming and historic inn, this property is located on Centre Street, next to the Old North Church, in the historic residential district. In Captain Hammond's honor, each of the eleven guest rooms is named for a Nantucket whaleship. Classical music and the aroma of home-baked muffins greet you each morning as the complimentary continental breakfast is served on the cheery enclosed breakfast porch. A refrigerator with ice is also located there for your convenience. Beach towels and a bicycle rack are also available. The inn's unspoiled interior retains the original random-width floorboards and striking antique paneling.
